philadelphia native hollis p monroe is a man who has been slowly and steadily building a respectable catalogue of music since his debut on canadian label stickman in 1997. appearances on josh winks ovum and the legendary west end label have all helped establish hollis as a talented writer, producer, vocalist and dj having recently been drafted in for collaborations with the likes of kink, trickski and rampa. here we find him producing under his new moniker the black 80s in collaboration with frank julien, and following hot on the heels of a killer release for compost black label.

4th title from this great collaborative techno label from london, another fine bundle of established artists go head to head... bros004 brings together two legends of the techno world mike parker and paul birken. they have created a track that is a minimal system killer, driving forward with pure subtly thats hypnotising as well as forceful. on the flip side greg shappert (donor) and bill youngman move and step around distorted drums and synth lines creating a never ending in your face techno track!

absent from the shelves of record shops for some four years, the detroit wax label operated by eddie fowlkes resurfaced in style with last years unsung hero ep. thats what makes a track represents the seventh detroit wax transmission from fowlkes and sees the producer offer up a double does of his own distinct technosoul sound. lead track *thats what i think about* starts with a deep beat and then expands neatly, adding further rhythmic detail and a killer vocal hook: this is what makes a song cool, special. complementing this, *computer* has fowlkes on hypnotic form, mixing deep beats with cosmic sounds which are again elelvated by his usage of vocals...

it is a family affair as grimy returns with heat from the windy city known for amazing dance edits. tim mcallister takes it out the gate with *rollin*, a classic soul/disco beater replete with joyous flute trills, leslie speaker efx and a pumping house kick. in-demand newcomer cratebugs *get up move your body* is a spacious, cosmic edit of a little-remembered canadian gem. the song ends with an intuitive synth jam that will be enjoyed by djs and home listeners alike. longtime grimy associate rahaan ends things with a bang. his largely original *buari traxx* mixes ghanaian rhythms with killer disco bass and the nuanced, tracky drum programming you could find on a dancemania record. the brilliant track is built for the floor and also serves as an apt transition into grimy trax, a sister label that will release all new music. chicago is still burning.

two overlooked rare disco masterpieces produced by soul legend lenis guess. when we met lenis in new york this year, the super rare shake lp *music is the only way we can communicate* was lying overlooked and forgotten on a dusty shelf. lenis had the tapes there too, so it wasnt long before we picked two of our favourite tracks for this killer 45. one for the rare disco and boogie heads and never before on 45, these wont be around long.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. luma is a project by dave clark from glasgow. dave had his first release as a member of state of flux in 1993 on t&b vinyl, the label twitch ran with his dj partner of that era, brainstorm. twitch and dave have continued to work together in various ways ever since. he has released records as truffle club, and as big ned on optimo music as well as working with twitch from 2005 - 2010 remixing a plethora of artists under the optimo (espacio) moniker before fatherhood necessitated him focusing on changing nappies rather than programming synths. dave has also recorded under various aliases for r&s, numbers, stuffrecords, dissident and wireblock. the twentieth anniversary of that first release seemed a fitting date for dave to unleash his monster new club music alter ego, luma on optimo trax. twitch thinks dave is the best producer in scotland and endlessly weeps into his gin and tonics about how unprolific dave is, so was ecstatic when the 4 killer tracks were delivered that make up this third optimo trax ep. these have been thoroughly road tested over the last few months at gigs around the world.
